Solid Snake is a quite peculiar name for a game's character. But everything has its hidden story. So, Solid Snake got his name from Snake Plissken otherwise know as Kurt Russel's eyepatched character, (actually the resemblance is qute remarkable, especially with naked snaked who has an eyepatch as well) in the movie Escape From New York.
The creator wanted for his hero to have a paradoxical first name to contrast his "smooth" last name and so Solid Snake was born! THNX Kurt Russel! You are the Boss! (What did i just say?!?!)
