Top 10 Best Android Games

Heeeeello Kupo!1UPers! One more Top 10 article is here this time way more modern than the last one! As the title reads im gonna propose 10 gaming apps for android devices that in my opinion are the best you can find. Also I tried to pick titles from several genres. Most of you will notice, I hope, that with the coming of the touch operated devices the gameplay had to adapt with that new feature. So, on the one hand, the gaming got more simple than it was because many things got automated because of the lack of the physical buttons. For instance instead of platform game we have now runner games where the character runs by default and you just have to touch the screen or slide fingers on it to perform some specific actions. On the other hand adventure or point and click games got a second chance because of the directness of the interaction. But thats enough of the theoritical part. Lets propose some games! (Dont expect to see apps such as angry birds or Candy Crush Saga.. they are way too popular and obvious or apps with incredible hd graphics we got PCs for that kind of things).

10. Greedy Spiders

This is a one of the most challening games I ve ever played on an adroid device. Grab your coffee, get wrapped in your blanket and concetrate all of your skills in this fantastic puzzle 2d game. Greedy Spiders, in each stage, gives you a web that gets more complicated level by level. On that web there are flies and spiders. Your mission in each level is to cut off every possible route that the spiders have to reach the trapped flies. The first levels are quite easy but as you progress deeper it becomes really really REALLy hard to figure out the right way to cut the web strings ... Its one of the simplest games yet one of the hardest and most challenging!

9. Jetpack Joyride

Simple gameplay fast paced action many coins even more crashes. JJ is considered a runner game where you take the role of Sam a guy who wears a jetpack and goes for a joyride. Sidescrolling as it is all you have to do is touch the screen in order to hover above the ground or stop touching it to fall in order to avoid obstacles. Its 1 hit gameover game so do what you can to find protection or upgrade Sam. Quite fun and addictive.

8. Epic Skater

Epic Skater belongs in the runner category like Temple Run, Subway Surfers etc. I included this game on the list because for some reason I just hate the Temple Run series and I looooove skateboarding and this particular is the nearest to the actual skating feeling you can find out there. 2D sidescrolling and random generating stage with 3D character. The gameplay is a s simple as it can get you skate through the town and you have to avoid obstacles cliffs and the like by doing flips grabs and grinds and making points! This game is soooo damn addictive that filled my free time in the army so good! I suggest you try it and im sure you will love it.

7. Machine Knight

The Google Play store is full of jrpgs that more or less all of them look alike. Yet some of them tend to get a bit more the public's attention than the others. MK caught my eye because it carries on the  2D graphics legacy of masterpieces such as Wild ARMs or Alundra and Zelda with a sci-fi fantasy plot turn based fast paced battles and a remarkable music score. Really i dont think there is much more to ask if you are a fan of then genre.

6. TableTop Racing (TTR)

Get ready to have fun with this Micro Machines clone. a classic miniature racing game with nice 3D  graphics well designed stages power-ups, and challenging gameplay. Unlock new cars make you own collection and just slide on spilt milk! If you like racing games but you are sick of games with expensive fancy cars then this is for you enjoy!

5.  Order & Chaos Duels

Like a true geek there was a part of my life where all of my money were invested in Magic the Gathering cards... OC Duels is a clone of that great card game with the only difference that is less money demanding. Build your deck win your battles earn more cards and just make your card collection bigger and bigger. The good thing is that this app is mostly free but sometimes if you want to get reeeeally better you have to pay ("in game purchases" what a trend huh?!)

4. Tower Defence

A well known app genre for android systems. The defence games became very familiar to the android users and this genre has quite a lot of titles to give us. Tower Defence is one of the best if you ask me. Futuristic with a lot of tower upgrades, a lot of strategic way of thinking required, alien landscapes as maps, chaotic gunfire and immense hordes of enemies. The music is well composed giving you a battle rythm thats puts you really in the mood and the graphics are what they should be for such a game! The goal is to position your units on the 2D map in such a way that they will prevent they enemy hordes from reaching and destroying your tower! Simple and addictive!

3. Mountains of Madness

We all are familiar with the new handy fever that BigFish started a few years back with the HOG (Hidden Object Games). They got really progressed over the years and adopted elements found on point and click games such as multiple choice dialogues riddles inventories etc. Personally i have played tons of games like those to my PC and i can say they are quite amusing. A real gem for android devices is the one that hears to the title of Mountains of Madness. A really lovecraftian horror mystery story with the classic BigFish touch that all the fans of the legendary author must taste .

2. Terra Monsters 

Not much to say for TM. A classic clone of the legendary pokemon series. An rpg with world map battles and monsters to capture and fight with. HD 2D pokemon graphics and angle are all that a pokemon fan and android user needs. Give it a try and im sure you will be totally obsessed with it. Besides... we gotta catch 'em all, don't we?!

1. Zenonia 4

When an ancient evil threatens to erupt onto the world, heroes of the ages must assemble once again to change the course of destiny. The definition of the action jrpg on HD that will really blow your mind. This game has it all old school classic graphics, real time battles, level ups, a vast world to travel through, japanese authentic battle cries and all that you seek in a game like that. Im not saying anything else! Just mafacka play it!!!

Top 10 Playstation J-RPGs

Being a big fan of the RPG genre especially of the Japanese ones and of the golden era of the late 90's i decided to make a Top 10 post of the greater JRPGs that were realesed on Sony's Playstation. This Top 10 list of course is according to my judgement and doesnt mean that it is catholic.

10. The Adventures Of Alundra

Alundra is an action role playing game develpoed by Matrix Software, and features the adventures of an Elf of the clan of Elna, The Dreamwalkers. Led by his dreams that they call him the "Releaser", Alundra is caught up in a storm and his ship is washed ashore the beach a a village. The townsfolk blame Aludnra for the monsters that threaten the village and like this Alundra's adventures begin. Despite its many similarities with the classic 2D Zelda series (one lonely wanderer that his ship is wrecked and the townsfolk save him, pointy ears - elf origin,  a whole arsenal likes sword, bombs etc. reminds me soooo much of The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening) Alundra has managed to win a place in the Top 10 because of its beautiful graphics, its classic gameplay and its intriguing music. In my opinion the "Nintendo" and "Zelda" fans underestimated it big time back in the days.

9. Star Ocean: The Second Story

Star Ocean is a fantasy RPG that it gives me the impression that its intentions were to look like Final Fantasy VII. Its direction (the photography of the its pre-rendered graphics) follows the same path that FF VII did, and its a very nice mixture of "old" and new weaponry (sword and guns, this is something that japanese developers love it, from anime and games till movies). Its gameplay is treading  on the steps of the most of the turn-based rpg out there. Towns, dungeons, battles and level ups are what you should expect to find in this JRPG. The gods have hurled a deadly meteorite into an unsuspecting planet unleasing such chaos that was never seen before! Now its only up to 2 people from different worlds to take a turn to the most perillous journey that they might never make it back from.

8. Xenogears


Dude i loooove jrpgs and in the PSX era they were just keep coming and coming with no end! Awesomeness! If u want something done right just have a japanese do it for u!!! Now, in Xenogears. A mysterious organization is turning the tides of a century-long war with ancient technology giant combat robots known as Gears. A failed attempt to steal one of these powerful weapons places it in the unwilling hands of young Fei and his dubious allies. Now he is pursued by military governments, royal pirates, spies, the emperor, and his own forgotten past. This is in general terms the plot of Xenogears. With its gameplay following the classic jrpg road Xenogears manages to win a place in this Top 10 and its definitely a game that every jrpg fan that has some respect for himself should play even once in his life.

7. Legend of Legaia

This jrpg developed by Contrail and published by Sony Computer Entertainment, follows the classic path that every psx jrpg of its time that respects its own self does! :Legend of Legaia takes place, where else? in a world called Legaia. Legaia is inhabited by humans and objects called Seru, that once joined with humans, they grant them fantastic powers. Once, Seru and humans co-existed in harmony but about ten years before the game begins, a mist appeared that turned the Seru into monsters and nearly annihilated the human race. Now humans join forces in different regions to hide from the mist! Legend of Legaia is one more jrpg with turn based battle system with a captivative story that really no fan of the genre should miss. Even now that the graphics are quite outdated it worth playing!

6. Breath Of Fire IV

BOF IV is a traditional role playing game with an isometric viewpoint with full rendered 3D environment and 2 dimensional characters. BOF IV like every other game of the series follows the story of a young man named Ryu (armed with the power to transform into dragons) and his teammates that all together try to stop the awakening of an evil emperor that with a dragon form wants to destroy mankind. The thing that makes the 4th installment of the series stick out from its brothers and actually to stray from the path is the fact that it is chinese like designed. The names are chinese like (e.g. Fu-Lu) and the music has a really adventurous chinese feeling unlike all the other BOFs that were set in eastern medieval like worlds with western like epic tunes! If i were you id purchase it right away because very few games are so well designed and with a unique scenario and atmosphere. Its really on of the kind.

5. Parasite Eve

Whoever owned a PS in those days and were a fan of the genre he couldnt have missed (but if he did I pity him) Parasite Eve. Parasite Eve is what I would call a weird combination of Resident Evil 2 and Final Fantasy VIII. Its set in the real world (the world map is that of Manhattan). The characters are fully 3D drawn in a 2D pre-rendered environment and the battles are turn based. A police officer and a possessed woman by an ancient evil that threatening the earth are bond together until something dies. The game beging following the steps of a rookie police officer, Aya Brea, attending an opera concert  that very soon turn out to be a demonic holocaust. A magnificent sci-fi rpg from the creators of the legendary Final Fantasy VII that promises compelling plot and a gameplay that will mark ur gaming existence.

4. Wild ARMs

Well what can i say for that epic title?! I really dont know from where i should complimenting. Though its viewpoint is quite zelda like and even back in the psx era could be regarded outdated WA captivates you right from the moment that the intro starts. Basically thats what made me play it in the first place. Set up in a sci-fi western environment that combines perfectly guns swords and magic Wild ARMs takes place in a wolrd called Filgaia (Fargaia in the original Japanese release). A thousand years before the events of WA a war between humans and the Metal Demons was raging and humans prevailed destroying the enemy's "Mother" but not killing her. They managed though to trap her extracting her heart breaking it into pieces and traping them into 3 statues scattered across the land. The gameplay throughout the world is set in a 2D aspect and the battles are set into a full 3D rendered environment. Definitely a masterpiece and the first jrpg to be released in the PSX and totally worth your time. Over 50 hours of gameplay will make you forget games that till now you were considering a must.

3. Final Fantasy IX

If I could I would put FF VII as well in this Top 10 list but there were other that deserve a place here so FF IX is enough for now. FF 9 takes place in the four continents of a world called Gaia. The most of the population inhabits the Mist continents. The other ones are still uncharted (e.g the Outer Continent). The town are inabited by human and non human anthropomorphic races. The games and we see Zidane Tribal and the Tantalus Theater Troupe planning and kidnapping Princess Garnet while on her sixteenth birthday. Queen Brahne pursuits them while they escape on their airship. Going on, we learn that princess Garnet wanted to meet with regent Cid who is the person that Tantalus team were going to take her anyway. An epic adventure begins where we see a mystic figure called Kuja being the actual master of puppets behind Queen Brahne's erratic and weird, aggressive behavior and the efforts of Zidane and his team to stop Queen Brahne's wars against the rest of the Mist's Continents kingdoms. The game has a full 3D world map and 2D pre-rendered graphics in the towns and dungeons where the players tends to spend the most of the gameplay. The battles are turn based and when the encounters occur at random we are transferred to the Battle screen. I won't praise FF IX at all I ll just say that it was one of the few games that really scarred my gaming childhood in the most fairytale-ish way.

2. The Legend of Dragoon

TLOD takes place in a fictional continent called Endiness. It is a geographically diverse land, with each climate zone being home to a different nation. The main protagonist is Dart that he returns home after his long 5 year pursue of the killer of his parents, the Black Monster. When he returns home he finds out that his village was scorched down by the army of Sandora and his childhood friend was captured. He sets out to find her and along the way he meets with several characters. Main role in the game play the Dragoons. Dragoons are spirits that allow humans to take a more powerful form during battle. Like the previous on the list. the characters are 3D while the environments are 2d pre-rendered. The world map is just an map that you just choose ur destination. There are also towns and dungeons and the encounters are random as well and when they happen we get transferred to the battle screen. Very characteristic is the constant flavor of sadness that leaves embroided to your soul something that very few games can transmit!

1. Final Fantasy VII

Though much can be said for that legendary piece of art I ll try to keep it short. We all are familiar with that rpg title that marked more than one generations. It features all the characteristics of the last two games regarding its gameplay (turn based battle system, 3d characters etc.) and the music is unique. It draws you in and captures you. You take control of Cloud Strife. an EX-Soldier that worked for the Shinra company. Now just an outlaw he joins forces with Avalance a terrorist organization that opposes Shinra for being responsible for the dying condition of the planet,Gaia. Avalance targets and bombs the nuclear reactors fuel that are constantly drain the life of the planet, the lifestream. After making shinra almost incapable of pursuing them they start searching for Sephiroth, Cloud's past mentor but now his sworn enemy. Sephiroth wants to use the planet as his mother's vessel and ship to become the medium that will aid her in conquering the universe. A sci-fi jrpg with a so much authentic plot that like this has never been written. After all it was first on Top 10s throughout all these years for a reason wasn't it?

Top 10 PSP Games

Hello people! What the heck is going on with all the fashion even in the gaming industry?! I cant even begin to try to understand how some (or should i say most) people think! Seriously now, in a world where we have seen games like Final Fantasy or Heavy Rain we think that God of War is "coooool" game?! Come on guys get serious! And i dont have to mention all those sport games like PES that are coming out more often than the antivirus suites! Get yourselves together people! When i want to play a game i mean play! I mean get captivated by the tremendously magnificent plot, or be absorbed by the deep gameplay or have reeeeal fun with the Crash Bandicoot atmosphere, not smash the X's brains out in order to hit hit hit hit hit hit hit hit and ... hit! Yeah, dont get me wrong this was nice back then in the Metal Slug era and even now is considered a retro but dont come after 20 years Mr. God of War to sell me your crappy title as something innovative cos i ll have to kick you in the pussy, you stupid egyptian-faced noob! 

You see, thats the easy solution nowadays. If u have money u just buy the newest technology means and u make impressive graphics and thats all. But to make some deep gameplay or a magnificent plot, thats what it takes guts talent and creativity!

So owning a PSP since 2006 i have played numerous titles i ve concluded that PSP was a powerful console of its time but it got buried by its titles. Many shallow games, many movie games (like spiderman) and family puzzle games that dont use the console's abilities not even to the minimum. But amongst all that crap i have discovered some true masterpieces of PSP. Lets take a brief look at each of them (thats my opinion of course with which i know that many of you will disagree).

10. Ape Escape: On The Loose

Apes, apes, apes... everywhere!!! There are not really much to say about a so well known title that you won't already know. Its story goes back to the PSX era where the first game of the series was released and it was a colorful fun and catchy 3D platform game! Its offspring on PSP bears the same features making it a fresh new game while holding onto those things that made it great in the past!


9. Castlevania: Dracula X Chornicles

Another classic title made its way to the first portable Playstation and it's the famous Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles. Having many years on its back and travelled through many consoles it comes to PSP in a semi-3D way, keeping the old school side scrolling platform gameplay, and dressed with classic lovely japanese arcade-ish melodies! I think that there is not much more to ask from a Castlevania title especially if you want to re-live glorious past days! So whip those candles' brains out and collect the damn hearts! Its really addictive!

8. Crash Of The Titans

Though i hate the 360' turn that our crazy bandicoot took, i must admit that it feels really fun to play though i was very sceptical at the beggining. If you expect a psycho bandicoot to spin around and collect wumpas and play with its yo-yo then that game is not for you. But dont give up yet and give it a try. The only thing that shares with its predecesors is that it is a 3D platform and there is Crash in it. But everything else is fresh new. Just pretend that it's not a CB game (just say that it's a distant cousin!!!) and you will love it! Im sure of it!

7. Silent Hill Origins

Just another epic horrifying haunted and disturbingly nightmarish adventure in Silent Hill. This time you take Travis Grady, a truck driver, and get deep in Silent Hill as he wants to save a little girl from a burning house. As he does so he gets caught up in all that madness of the deserted town and its Other World that it feels like an itchy and ugly nightmare that u cant wake up from! Full 3D environments, a gameplay that follows the footsteps of the prequels Silent Hill Origins is a really good choice if not the best for the survival horror lovers. And you know how rare are those games on PSP dont you folks?!

6. Tomb Raider Anniversary

Though not being a great fan of the TR series, the TR Anniversary caught my eyes mostly because of one thing! That it is actually a remake of the first Tomb Raider. And believe me. The job that has been done here is great! A classic Tomb Raider title that carries all the well known features of the series with stunning graphics and a really smooth gameplay in 3D free roaming levels. Take our hot renewed Lara Croft and unravel the mysteries behind the ancient artifact of Scion! It will make you want to play more and more (especially if you have palyed the first Tomb Raider in the Playstation)

5. Final Fantasy: Dissidia

Well.... What can I say for that beloved title?! Attempts like that make you wanna go and handshake the creators' hand because they are just marvellous! What FF fan hasnt imagine not even once how would an encounter be one on one of Cloud and Squall?! Come on, i know there is simply none, because I know how passionate the FF fans are and their thoughts cant be just shallow! Being so creative, FFD has gathered every main character from FF I till FFX in one fighting game! The fights take palce in 3D arenas, and the players have a wide variety of skills and attacks at their disposal as limit breaks and more! Many unlockables are there as well as rewards for the demanding and hardcore players!

4. Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker

This is another exclusive for the portable Playstation and its great! The metr of espionage Naked Snake comes once again to teach us that can conquer any console his is being played on! Astonishing 3D graphics and a gameplay that combines the classic MGS' and that of squad management makes us think that there are no boundaries and limit for neither Hideo Kojima nor Naked Snake. The title manages to capture the magnificence of its insanely twisted plot and it is full of bonuses and secrets throughout its whole 30 hours of gameplay. The most addictive MGS for our portable companion and if you dont believe me you will just miss all the experience and fun.

3. Ys Seven

I dont know any more if the fashion of the 2D jrpg's nowadays is regarded classic (even in consoles such as PS3) or they are just a bunch of lazybums games. In the 3rd place i was going to present Crimson Gem Saga but because it give me the impression of being just another jrpg that exploits the features of its kind i chose Ys Seven instead. Ys Seven is not the game you will hear everyone talking about, but its definitely a title that every jrpg fan has to play and has everything an action-jrpg craves. 3D nice colorful graphics, classic music tunes that  u can find in games of the genre, nice in-game menu, quick paced real time battles, and fascinating story line, are the things that you should expect to see and they will surely make the 30+ hours of gameplay look like nothing!

2. Tekken 6

I thought just to refer to its name and move on. There are not anything anyone could add for such a title that could be not already known. The course of history has proven greatly which is the king of fighting games and having it transfered to the PSP as well with success, makes us think that it could be done better! With a cast of 41+ characters each one with a few set of moves added and many unlockables Tekken 6 manages to be one of the most addictive fighting games on PSP. When it comes to online mode we could expect some more things but lets not be greedy! It is still an uncomparable title that nobody can match!

1. Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core

Overlooking the damage the Enix has done to every single game of Squaresoft ( I personally despise all the innovations that Enix is responsible for) FFCC could not belong to a less glorious position than the 1st. In CC u gain control of Zack Fair (a SOLDIER member and a friend of Cloud Strife) and) and the events are taking place 7 years before the events of Final Fantasy and umravel the myth behind Zack and the legendary Sephiroth when he was still a member of Shinra! I won't say more because it would be spoiler. So... FF fans you just know what to do!

Top 10 Best Video Game Soundtracks

How's it going fellas?! Welcome to Kupo!1UP once again. This post as u can see from its title is about the best soundtracks in the gaming industry according to my opinion. Although i think that most of u will agree with me. In each song there is gonna be a video as well with best version that i ve found on the web or with the original one. Well here it goes.

10. Mortal Kombat (Main Theme) 

Mortal Kombat holding the sceptre of arcade fighting in history has an extremely wild electronic soundtrack. Fast paced and with a melody that haunts your andrenaline, makes you feel invinsible and wanting to kick everyone's ass! Just what a game like that needs, nothing more and nothing less.

9. Dungeon Siege  (Main Theme)

Percussions, pianos and horns are joining forces like this is gonna be ur last battle. A massively epic tune sings a melody like never before in the gaming history filling the listener's soul with courage, bravery, and an "its me or you" feeling! Enough said. Enjoy!

8. Broken Sword - The Shadow Of The Templars (The Templars)

That conspiratorial, classic, point n' click adventure, gets dressed with such mysterious and bewitching eastern vibes that u can only open ur ears and listen to them if u like it or not. The mesmerising feeling of sweet guilt and that something ancient is watching you haunts the air in this Broken Sword masterpiece!

7. The Legend Of Zelda (Main Theme) 

So many things can be said about this enormously gorgeous soundtrack but i m sure all of u have heard at least once this Legend of Zelda theme. Being 25 years amongst us this legendary tune have scarred us all for life!

6. Wild Arms (Main Theme)

Having the japanese people constantly merging the "far-west" melodies with the anime style and culture we get a song like the one thats being heard in the intro of Wild Arms. Cowboyish whistles and sweet guitar tunes take us to a western, post-apocalyptic, sci-fi, world like no other in the gaming history!

5. Silent Hill (Main Theme)

Twisted, disturbed, sadistic and abnormal yet sweet and sad are what playing Silent Hill feels like. The same feelings are being etched onto the mind, each time one hears that tune of this survival horror masterpiece!

4. Max Payne 2 (Main Theme)

A tragic hero with an urban touch. Thats what Max Payne is to me. The sounds of cello and piano reflect the soul of the vengeful cop along the reckless journey to avenge his brutally murdered family. The heart-beat heard in the song feels like watching everything in slow motion as a devastating truth gets revealed before the eyes of the gamer!

3. The Witcher (Seawall)

A really carefully and with talent composed score piece, reflects the harsh times of the fantasy-medieval age The Witcher narrates. Sad, calm, and grand at the same time Seawall is a soundtrack that definitelly will be remembered for quite a long time.

2. Metal Gear Solid 3 (Way To Fall)

Legendary yet betrayed. Thats what MGS3 is in a few words and that is what the lyrics of Way To Fall are saying! An even bigger tragic hero, that has given everything for his comrades and country and has received only lies, Naked Snake is the person from whom everything began.

1. Final Fantasy VII (Sending A Dream Into The Universe)

Though Final Fantasy VII is literally full of great tunes and themes i believe that this one is the most meaningful. Sometimes plain compositions tend to be greater than complex ones! "Sending A Dream Into The Universe" is the whole game into some notes, at least for me, and its title includes the writer's concept.

Top 10 Most Horrifying Video Games

As the author, of the cult of "weird" fiction, H.P. Lovecraft, once wrote "The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear". Even if we don't want to see things that will probably give us the chills, something inside us indicates otherwise. It's the very same thing that causes andrenaline to reach red limits, and it's the same thing that makes hair stand up like nails. Fear, no matter how blood freezing, will always be tempting and intriguing and its adventurerers feel like treading on unknown facets of the most untold terrors.

And of course, that is a thing that video game designers realized quite early, and adapted it in a genre known as Survival Horror. This particular genre has quite a lot of fans for the reasons i already mentioned. Even if its allusive terror like the one we find in Scratches, or raw gory disturbing violence of Condemned, Survival Horror its a genre thats has developed in a way that would satisfy even the most demanding gamers. In 2012 the titlesare so many and the sub-genres even more, so im gonna present to you the 10 most fearsome of them. 

10. Dead Space (PS3, Xbox 360, PC)

Created with the latest means of technology, Dead Space is quite a chaotic spectacle, being Isaac Clarke literally alone in the vastness of space trapped inside a rescue ship confronting "Necromorphs". This name (it could so easily be the name of some black metal band!) belongs to an alien virus that hosts as a parasite into livng humans, turning them into clawing blood thursty android abominations. Maybe the plot isnt really innovative, but the way Dead Space is given (and also dressed with brilliant scores) is quite a temptation for all the horror gamers. Though one of the most successful survival horror titles out there, Dead Space wins merely the 10th position only for the reason that its gameplay gets a bit boring along the way. U ll find urself just wondering around in rooms full of computers and narrow corridors having to literally mutilate numerous Necromorphs. It could be addictive, though i was expecting a more tempting gameplay.

9. Doom 3 (PC. Xbox, Mac)

Remakes most of the time leave me thinking if they`re gonna overcome the success of their predecessors but Doom 3 left me no doubt about it. Dated in 2004 with graphics that even today are remarkably impressive Doom 3 is set in a futuristic space station in Mars which is infested with demons and nightmarish grotesque creatures with the sole purpose of scaring the shit out of and of course destroying Earth. Not a very rare to find scenario again but its a masterpiece to the collection of a horror gamer fan.

8. Project Zero 2: Crimson Butterfly (Playstation 2, Xbox)

With Japan being into the horror industry for good we have enjoyed and scared to death many times thanks to their non-stoping imagination and creativity. Project Zero 2 beats what they say that the first of the series is always the better. I think that the 2nd attempt of Ubisoft is even better than the 1st having the gamers to follow 2 little girls chasing around a butterfly, only to find themselves lost in a village were the souls of the dead never rest. And the exciting thing of this tittle is that u dont have any shotguns, axes, steel pipes or any other badass weapon (who would like anything like that when confronting an immaterial spooky threat?) just a camera that u try to annihilate the ghosts by taking pictures of them! It may sound gay but it actually needs  BIG balls to encounter those spiritual threats with such a "weapon". I'd like to see how a movie version of this title would look like, but now that i am thinking about it there is a movie with similar plot called "Shutter".

7. Dark Fall: The Journal (PC)

Further down in our list we have Dark Fall: The Journal which is the right successful of the text adventure games if u ask me! You receive a tape recorder from ur brother telling you in a kinda freaked out way to take a train and meet him. But when u arrive, the station is deserted. Spooky and eerie sounds can be heard from every corner no matter how well lit it is and the chances to get chill blooded are uncountable. Its first person aspect of gameplay gives you the angle of looking through the protagonist's eyes and this fact makes the contact with each terror more immediate. It's a game thats highly recommended especially to the old school gamers and to those who know how to enjoy a good classic ghost story (its a classic pattern : 1.lights turned off 2. volume to its limit 3. play only in the night).

6. Penubra: Overture (PC)

Having H.P. Lovecraft to infect, almost any kind of art known these days, games couldn't be immune, especially Penubra: Overure. The Lovecraftian atmosphere is spread throughout the game. The player assumes the role of Phillip who receives a letter from his supposedly  dead father along with a crypted book. The investigation leads him to a bank account that holds a map for Greenland pointing to some old mines. The game is survival horror emphasizing on solving riddles rather killing enemies with brute force. The game uses cutting edge 3D graphics technology and it also has an advanced physic system which allows such an environment interaction like never seen before! Well all those i think are quite enough for Penubra: Overture to be in this list.

5. Call of Cthulu: Dark Corners of the Earth (PC, Playstation 2, Xbox)

Well its needless to say where this title originates from. It comes directly from the haunted pages of Lovecraft's stories along with the Old Ones, Cthulu, and the upcoming, unavoidable madness!  You take the role of detective Jack Walters, six years after the disturbing events in the Massachussets manor that apparently drove you insane. You take up a case of investigating a missing person in a slimy, xenophobic, foggy, town called Innsmouth. There is something... "fishy" about the Innsmouth residents and ur gonna find it out, not with the most tender way! Enough said about that masterpiece, the rest is all up to you to discover...  if u have the guts of course!

4. Scratches (PC)

Approaching even more the number one in the Top 10 Most Horrifying Video Games, 4th comes a not so well-known atmospheric, first person, point n' click, adventure game called Scratches. The famed horror writer Michael Arthate arrives at Blackwood Manor a Victorian style residence located in the ouskirts of a small english market town. Soon enough he finds himself isolated by a destroyed road. With a telephone being the only means of communication with the outer world, he has to overcome his fears but the strange sounds echoing through all the house's walls will make the dusty atmosphere even frightening. Solving several puzzles as he makes his way through the lonely rooms of the manor and some more areas around the house as well such as a mystical chapel, a greenhouse, and a spooky crypt he will find himself wishing..he was alone!

3. Amnesia: The Dark Descent (PC)

Pacing in the steps of Penubra in aspects of gameplay Amnesia: The Dark Descent, is another first person, survival horror, point n click, atmospheric adventure. In the beggining u take control of Daniel after getting conscious being at a loss suffering from amnesia. U just have to make ur way through the hostile chambers, corridors, and rooms of this vast castle trying to find out more about ur identity. The horrors that u are going to come up against are beyond any imagination. The real good thing about this one is that the game feels quite natural as u play using quite an adnvaced physics and interactive system. It gives u the ability to interact with almost anything in every way u can imagine. One more plus of this title is though it doesn't have immediate action, brutal killing or abomination like monsters, u feel constantly terrorized by the spookiness of the castle's corridors and the pitch black darkness, that u wish u had enemies to slaughter in order to wreak the tension. Being one of the most fluently made games of that genre ever i happily freaked out every moment i spent with it!


2. Resident Evil (Playstation, PC, Saturn)

I believe i dont have to say almost anything about Resident Evil being the game that defined the genre like no one else. In the first of the series S.T.A.R.S. Team is running, in panic, towards a mansion in order to find shelter from what it seems a vicious dog. Then, in the Mansion they will get separated n eventually lost and Jill Valentine or Chris Redfield (2 options) will have to find their partners and to solve the infested-with-zombies-mansion mystery. They soon will discover that they have to deal with a deadly virus that their own company manufactured conducting experiments.


1. Silent Hill 2 (Playstation 2, PC)

I ll never forget the insanity and the unimaginably terrifying atmosphere that was lurking within the streets of the first Silent Hill of the series, but some flaws that were corrected in the sequel made me write about the 2nd one. But lets face it, it's really difficult to tell which one is better, because even though the first one has that prototype kind of fear, the second one is almost flawless!!! Well no matter how many horror games i have played or gonna play i ll never find such a disturbing title. Konami once again gave gaming legacy a masterpiece that is going to be discussed for many generations! James Sunderland receives a letter from his dead wife that tells him to meet her in Silent Hill. The foggy scenery is largely depressing, the plot is twisted in an authentic Japanese way, the creatures are designed in a manner that can only be described as mentally ill and malicious and the sounds blend in so well that this thing alone can cause a heart attack. I dont think there is any fan of the genre out there who hasnt played Silent Hill 2, and if there is do urself a favor and try it now!
