Game Boy Is Coming Back Thanks to Hyperkin

With the NES and SNES Classic Edition retro consoles still selling out as fast as they go on sale, it’s a safe assumption that Nintendo is going to revive some of its other popular consoles soon. But before the Game Boy Classic Edition has a chance to become more than a rumor, peripherals manufacturer Hyperkin is releasing its own remake of the classic portable handheld

Temporarily called the Ultra Game Boy while it’s still in development, the name is actually a perfect description of Hyperkin’s hardware, which improves on Nintendo’s original Game Boy in countless ways, without affecting the classic gameplay many of us remember.

The aluminum housing makes Hyperkin’s Game Boy feel like a tank, but
hopefullyyour parents have kept all your original cartridges.
The Ultra Game Boy’s housing is made from aluminum, which has a wonderful heft when you pick it up. Your original Game Boy is probably covered in knicks and scratches, but it will take a lot of abuse for Hyperkin’s remake to start showing wear and tear. The Ultra Game Boy carries over the original’s volume and contrast dials, but the final version will include a third dial allowing you to adjust the portable console’s new backlit LCD display through the entire RGB spectrum. That backlight can also be turned off, if you want a truly authentic, squinty, Game Boy experience.

New features for the Ultra Game Boy will include a built-in six-hour battery, a USB-C port for charging, as well as a pair of stereo speakers, and left and right audio-out connections. Why the improvements to the Game Boy’s sound system when all of its classic games only generate mono sound? Aside from appealing to retro gamers, Hyperkin’s Ultra Game Boy is also being customized for chiptune musicians who use the classic console to create modern electronic tunes. Yes, it’s a thing, and a very popular thing.

Who will be the first to put a Game Boy back in everyone’s hands? Hyperkin, or Nintendo?

Hyperkin is hoping to have the Ultra Game Boy, or whatever it ends up being called, ready for late Summer this year, with a price point of under $100. It sounds like Nintendo has a lot of catching up to do now, but the one thing Hyperkin’s classic console will be missing is built-in games. It can play all of your classic Game Boy games, and possibly even your Game Boy Color carts, but you’ll have to supply all of the original cartridges (I can already hear their prices shooting up on eBay!). That could make it less appealing to some, but it won’t be stopping me from rekindling my love with my original gaming obsession.

Zelda: Breath Of The Wild's Second DLC Shown In New Footage

New footage of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild's upcoming story DLC has been released, and more narrative details have been confirmed by series producer Eiji Aonuma.

The developer stated that you'll still play as Link in the Champions' Ballad expansion, but that you'll learn more about Zelda along the way. Take a look at the new development footage below.

Aonuma was speaking at a Zelda masterclass as part of Japan Expo in Paris, France. In addition to the story snippet, it was confirmed that Link's lobster t-shirt from The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker will return in The Champions' Ballad, and another Zelda art book is on the way, focusing on Breath of the Wild. The two previous books in the series have focused on Hyrule's history and The Legend of Zelda's art, respectively.

We got our first look at The Champions' Ballad at E3 this year. Nintendo says the expansion will add "new challenges that will let players enjoy a new dungeon and a new original story" when it launches in holiday 2017. The add-on is included in the $20 / £18 season pass, which also contains the recently-released Master Trails DLC pack.

Along with a harder difficulty mode (which uses its own separate save slots), The Master Trials introduces an assortment of new costumes such as the Tingle Outfit and Phantom Armor, a Travel Medallion that allows players to create a temporary quick-travel point, and a system that tracks the path you traveled around Hyrule.

The most significant addition, however, is the Trial of the Sword. Like the Cave of Ordeals from previous Zelda titles, this 45-room challenge tasks players will battling through a series of increasingly difficult encounters. You begin the Trial without any armor or equipment and can only fight using the weapons you acquire during the challenge. Completing the Trial of the Sword lets players wield the Master Sword in its fully powered-up state.

Square Enix Thinks About A Final Fantasy VI Remake

Final Fantasy VI is an incredible role-playing game - one of the best in the series, as far as we're concerned - but a lot of the time, it gets pushed aside in favour of the 3D titles that succeeded it. Square Enix hasn't completely forgotten about Terra and her 2D adventure, however, as Final Fantasy VII Remake producer Yoshinori Kitase admits that the development team has at least considered a remake of the classic release.

In an interview with Famitsu - translated by Gematsu - Kitase is jokingly asked to remake Final Fantasy VI, to which he responds: "Right now, we're working on Final Fantasy VII… The staff within the company are also saying it [that they want a
remake of Final Fantasy VI], but it continues to be put off." Interesting.

Obviously, a remake of Final Fantasy VI would require a lot of work - especially if it was going to make the jump to 3D. Honestly, though, we'd probably take some sort of remaster if it ever cropped up - provided it didn't take Square Enix approximately five years to produce.

Would you like to see Final Fantasy VI make a return? Rattle off about espers and all that in the comments section below.

The Last of Us Part II Is Being Cancelled

Unfortunately, there has been an unexpected turn of events. Naughty Dog went on canceling the most expected sequel The Last of Us Part II. The announcement was made by Neil Druckmann through his personal Twitter account and as he says, something like that was necessary. We literally can not find the words to describe the course of events for that game! We just hope that in the neat future will be a way for the game to be continued! See Druckmann's announcement here

PS4 System Software Update 4.50 Features Detailed

Starting today, those of you selected for our beta program will get an early peek at some of the new features coming to PS4 with our next major system software update, version 4.50 (codenamed Sasuke). If you signed up for the beta and were chosen, you’ll receive an email with instructions on how to download and get started.
Even if you’re not participating in the beta, we still wanted to give you a quick glance of the key features that will be rolling out with this update. We’re refining the user interface of PS4 even further, and adding highly requested features like external HDD support and custom wallpapers.

External HDD Support

It’s easy to upgrade the HDD that came with your PS4, but if you’re still looking for more storage space on the console, we’ve got you covered. With this update, you have the option to store content to an external HDD. Just plug a USB 3.0 HDD into your PS4, and voilà, you now have more space on the console.

This is compatible with HDDs up to 8TB in size. You can download and install applications directly to your extra storage, and the saved contents are easily manageable through the settings menu.
Also, all the applications saved in the external HDD will appear in the Content Launcher of the Home Screen so it’s easy to keep track of what apps you launched recently.
Please note: user save files are still stored locally on your PS4 HDD. Only games and applications are stored externally.

Custom Wallpapers

This update adds the ability to set your favorite in-game screenshot as the background image for PS4’s home screen. Drop-shadows on text, and the option to dim the Function Area, will help keep the system icons and texts on the home screen clearly visible even if the background image you selected is super bright.

You can also edit screenshots using Photo Mode in Sharefactory to make your one-and-only custom wallpaper.

Quick Menu Refresh

As you may know, in the last system update we overhauled the PS4 Quick Menu feature (the menu that appears after a long press of the PS button on DualShock 4).

This update brings additional improvements to make it even more accessible. Now the Quick Menu will cover even less of your gameplay screen, and you’ll be able to access handy Party features via Online Friends, like creating new parties, inviting friends, and joining parties, without transitioning to the separate Party app. The goal is to keep you in the game — and not stuck in menus.

Simplified Notification List

Before this update, the Notifications app had a variety of tabs on the left-hand side, like Game Alerts, Downloads, Uploads, and more. We’ve condensed all of the tabs to a single simplified list, making it easier to see all of your notifications all at-a-glance.

You can also quickly access the Notification settings from the Options Menu to turn off or customize which pop-up notifications appear on your screen, so you’re only being notified about your top priorities.

Post on PlayStation Network Activity Feeds

We’re adding the ability to post directly into the Activity Feed, which appears in a variety of places across the console, including What’s New. Under What’s New, you’ll see a new option to post things like text, screenshots, and gifs directly into your Activity Feed. You can also tag games or other users to make sure they don’t miss your post. It’s a great way to show off your greatest triumphs.
Tying into this new feature, Live from PlayStation will show screenshots that users uploaded to PSN as a Public Activity, so you can show off your best gameplay moments not only to your friends, but to users around the globe.

3D Blu-rays on PlayStation VR

If you’re a fan of 3D movies, and you own PlayStation VR, we’ve got good news — this update adds the ability to view 3D movies in stereoscopic 3D directly on the PS VR headset. Grab some popcorn and enjoy!
There are more features included in 4.50, so make sure to keep an eye out for additional info, including launch timing, in the weeks to come.

Final Fantasy 9 Is "Coming Soon" to PC, iOS and Android

UPDATE 06/01/2016 7.15pm: Final Fantasy 9's Steam release will offer "seven game boosters including high speed and no encounter modes," i.e. you'll be able to turn off random encounters, arguably one of the biggest bugbears of old JRPGs.

It's unclear if this feature will extend to the mobile releases.

There's still no word on when it's out beyond "early 2016".

ORIGINAL STORY 05/01/2016 12.31am: Final Fantasy 9 is getting a re-release on PC, iOS and Android devices, publisher Square Enix has announced.

No release date has been confirmed beyond a general "coming soon" tease on its official site.

Released in 2000 on the original PlayStation, Final Fantasy 9 has gone on to sell 5m copies. It even has secrets so obscure that one entire sidequest wasn't discovered until 13 years after its launch.

This will be Final Fantasy 9's first re-release outside of PS3 where it became available digitally as a PSone Classic in 2010.

Permanent End For Kojima's & Del Toro's Silent Hills

Silent Hills, at least as some people imagined it, wont be completed. The very much anticipated new chapter created an enormous rackus with its playable teaser P.T. that it became available last summer. Once someone solved the riddle of the P.T. he could watch a trailer for the new game that was revealing the colaboration of Metal gear solid's, Hideo Kojima, the director Guillermo Del Toro an the protagonist of The Walking Dead series , Norman Reedus.

According to Reedus' and Del Toros' sayings there wont be an attempt to continue the production process. At San Francisco International Film Festival, Guillermo Del Toro, according to sayings stated that the cooperation "is not going to happen". After that Norman Reedus, posted at his twitter an article that was about the cancelation of that project while Konami confirmed at Eurogamer that the contract with the actor was no longer active. The reasons that led to the cancelation of the project remain unknown but Kojima is going to divorce with Konami.

The gap between Kojima Productions and Konami (where the studio belongs) will lead as it seems for the designer to quit after the completion of Metal Gear Solid 5. Although as it seems Silent Hills is a collateral damage of Kojima's and Konami's conflict, the last says that will continue producing the Silent Hill series, as will do with metal gear Solid even without Kojima.

Whoever hasnt played the playble trailer is unlucky because it was active for download till today 29 of April.

Silent Hills May Officially Be Canceled

Okay, this is a little sketchy and I’m not going to say it’s 100% confirmed until it actually becomes 100% confirmed, but it’s still something that raises some serious concerns.

Apparently, last night at the San Francisco International Film Festival, acclaimed director/writer/producer Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy, Pan’s Labyrinth), was asked about the status of Silent Hills, the upcoming title in the long running Silent Hill series from Konami. His answer to the question was, “It’s not gonna happen and that breaks my greasy heart.

This “quote” was tweeted by Matt Hackney, where it quickly spread like wildfire. One retweet came from del Toro’s own personal assistant, Ian Gibson, who also responded to another tweet essentially confirming that the information was true.

Once again, nothing has actually been confirmed and that original quote is a little suspicious. But ti should be noted that there are some actually concerning facts that do lend credence to this idea.

The first bit of evidence is that P.T., the playable teaser that revealed the Silent Hills title, is being pulled from the PSN store in the next few days. No explanation has been given for this.

The second piece of evidence is that director Hideo Kojima will be leaving Konami after the September release of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. Konami has stated that the Metal Gear series will continue after Kojima leaves but there has been nothing official stated about the Silent Hill series.

We’ll keep you updated as we learn more.

Personally, this was one of my most anticipated titles ever. I was holding off on buying either a PS4 or an Xbox One because I wanted to see if it was an exclusive title. The thought of Kojima, del Toro, and Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead) working together to create a new Silent Hill was almost too good to be true. Unfortunately, it seems that this was the case all along. It was just a matter of time.

Sony ending PlayStation Vita Maps, Near Features & YouTube App

Sony has announced that it will end support for the PlayStation Vita's Maps and near features in a forthcoming system update.

Maps will be removed automatically as part of a March firmware patch, while near will lose its ability to obtain locations or display maps at all - effectively killing it, too.

The Vita's YouTube app is also set to be retired. Support will be fully removed from 20th April, although the app will no longer be available to download from today, 28th January.

Vita owners will still be able to watch YouTube clips via their browser, albeit with some minor loss of functionality.

Sony has FAQs for both the Youtube and Maps/near changes, although no reason has been given for the impending removals.

However, it's likely that Sony still pays to license the YouTube app for its device - a cost it may be seeking to be cut considering the numbers of customers using it. The same may also be true of its location-based services.

New Baldur's Gate Game to Bridge the Gap Between 1 & 3

Beamdog has revealed that its 'Adventure Y' project is definitively a new Baldur's Gate game.

Rather than a sequel, Adventure Y will "bridge the gap" between Buldur's Gate and Baldur’s Gate 2: Enhanced Edition, acting as a '1.5' entry of sorts.

"This year, the eagerly anticipated Adventure Y will finally navigate the dark underground caverns of development and venture out into the Sword Coast," the studio wrote on its blog. "... Adventure Y will be an addition to the Baldur’s Gate line using the Infinity engine, bridging the gap between Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition and Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Edition".

Grim Fandago Remastered! Manny Calavera Returns!

No other game was similar to Grim Fandago when it came out in 1998 and almost 2 decades later nothing exists that does.

Lucasarts' Grim Fandago, thats has created classic titles such as Monkey Island or Sam & Max, it was published  in a somewhat difficult period - regarding its commercial success - at the same time with Half Life, Metal Gear Solid and The LEgend of Zelda of Carina of Time.

Despite all that, the creation of Lucasarts won the gaming community's hearts and today is a classic title that belongs in the best of its genre. It is an adventure, with many doses of mystery, mexican folklore and film noir that narrates the story of Manny Calavera, a salesman from the Death Division that helps lost souls to find better traveling packets for the the land of the dead.

His job is to find the best traveling packet for his customers, which is defined according to the life of each dead guy. If someone had lived more righteously he will be given a faster means of transportation in order to reach his final destination!

At the beggining of the game we see that Manny is made to become a detective when he finds out a plot orchestrated by the company he works for. His quest leads him through a net of corruption, deceat and murder.

PLAYBOX: PS4 & Xbox One In a Single Netbook

Very much is being said about which console of those two is the best of our generation. Ed Zarick surpassed this obstacle and made Playbox a custom notebook that contains a PS4 and an Xbox One.

Ed Zarick, well known all over the internet for his mods, made a system combining the hardware of the consoles in a casing that he made himself. It comes with a 22 inch screen that despite its weight makes it portable. If you see it from the aspect of perfomance the console is operatable as the 2 consoles separately without overheating problems, inspite of the fact that its components are literally the one on top of the other. In conclusion, the 2 consoles cant be used at the same time.

Playbox is a prototype that was manufactured for a customer and it can't be bought out there but we guess that its price would be really really high if it did!

Dead After 3 Days of Gaming!

This unbelievable incident happened in Taiwan when a 32 years old man found dead in an internet cafe after 3 days of non-stop gaming!

This tragic incident is the number 2 this year in Taiwan due to gaming. The man entered the internet cafe in Kaohsiung (the second largest city of Taiwan), on the 6th day of January and the clerk found him unconscious in 8 January at 10:00. He transferred to the hospital where his death was officially confirmed.

Tha sad part of the story was that the unlucky man was dead for several hours before the clerk found him. This maybe means that the clerk thought that he just fell asleep, something that is quite common in an internet cafe. He died of exhaustion. He suffered a heart attack due to the cold in combination with his exhaustion caused from the long gaming.

It is a fact, however, that Hsieh had done such long gaming sessions many times and he was a regular customer of the internet cafe. He, actually, had slept quite many times on the table, and thats why the clerk took him for asleep.
