Why JRPG Job Systems Suck

Yeah yeah i know what you are thinking and i know you all gonna say "what the hell are u talking about" or "job system is classic" and stuff like that! Well let me tell you The JOB SYSTEM SUCKS!!!! And here is why:

1. ITS OLD! and not classic old. Just old. It orginates from the pen n paper D&D era where you had to form a party in order to play. It ruins all the fun to discover the personality of each character as the personalty doesnt exist especially in early rpgs like Final Fantasy.

2. Most of the job system titles are generic and they are somewhat fine like warrior (hmm ok someone who is good with melee weapons) or thief (hmm ok again a sneaky cunning little fella) or wizard (a man of high intellect and low body physique that can cast spells) but WHAT THE HECK WITH THE NINJA DUDES?!?!?! Ninjas are true historical figures that were mercenaries of espionage warfare in feudal Japan. Do you hear that?! JA-PAN ... J-A-P-A-N...

That means that this was happening in the past HERE, on earth! DO u get that? Not in Gaia, not in Terra, not in Filgaia or whatever fictional world those games take place in! So where is the connection?! If we are talking about an imaginary world, in an imaginary universe, with imaginary beings, then at least there should be the decency of creating at least a new title to describe someone with the ninja's qualities.

Maybe it was coooool back in the late 80's or early 90's the figure of the ninja, as it was almost in every action movie someone that would fight like one or throw the well know killing stars but not anymore it just isn't. So get over with it.

3. There are games that focus on the plot leaving the main character a bit behind like the western SKYRIM, GOTHIC, OBLIVION etc... and games that the plot progresses through each characters personality, emotional evolution etc.. In those games a job system is totally meaningless cos it serves nothing. (And im not talking about weapong proficiency or preference or specialization but for needless titling and faceless character portaits. Final Fantasy 7 deals with this problem quite smart. Everyone has each weapon specialization , something that he or she is good with, but in the end it is up to the player to create the wizard , the thief.. etc. I know that Yuffie has a tendency in stealing but that doesnt have to be reminded to me by the word THIEF next to her name or with a generic portrait.) I am talking about when a game that has psychologically grown up entities in it with passions , desires, frailties etc has to be evolved plotwise through those characters' progress throughout the playthrough. In lets say Skyrim u simply dont care about the past of your character, his weaknesses or his passions, it is a game that focus more on scavenging, leveling up, and on collecting and completing main and side quests. So what if u do those things with an Orc? What if u do those things with a Khajit? It is exactly the same.

4. And i dont wanna mention at all the whole thing about naming the character. These things are like we have the illusion of freedom to put our own mark on the game but literally serve absolutely nothing. And i talk about when a game offers a job system aka making me choose between warrior, thief etc and at the same time making me put a name on the char..NO MAAAAN this is just wrong u made the game u make the rules dont treat me like a damn child and try to tick me into believing that im in control of things cos im just not! i know what my part of the role is . It is just to move the character around and do things when asked if i progress thats my part! nd YOUR part is to make up an interesting name to match with the personality YOU created..Not me... So lets make things clear you create, I play! That simple!

5. Job systems are much more suitable to WRPGs as mentioned before because they are not story driven. In jrpgs there are cases where you watch dialogues unfold maybe for hours. No job system can fit in there. Yet in western games, job systems, can differentiate the gameplay experience and feel. If for example you try to invade a cave full of bandits, a thief can make things much easier than a warrior etc... In that case it MATTERS.

The only japanese style games that the job system can fit in nicely are the tactical ones such as Ogre Tactics , FF Tactics etc.. but that why it is much more strategical than anything else and classes matter in tactical warfare.

Metal Gear Solid V Phantom Pain Save System

Companies find all kinds of ways to makes us go to heaven and to make us hate them. This time MGS V made us hate them REALLY BAD for their crappy saving system. They changed the gameplay adding open world elements with i was quite sceptical at fist but then i thought "oh what the hell, they have yrt to disappoint me,so lets give it a shot" and i did and i liked it. But wants an open world with random checkpoints/autosaves that most of the times doesnt even count as checkpoints?!

Several times i was on a mission silently picking off guards one by one cleaning up the territory looting and stuffing till got killed in an accidental gunfight. First dai i said ok, i saw the checkpoint pop up a while back so i wont miss my progress but i was wrong. Thr game started me ay the beggining of the mission having erased all of my progress.

I was REALLY REALLY frustrated. Open world games HAVE to have manual autosaves by default. Its silly to make u go to a specific yet random point on map just to save only to realise that it saved nothing afterwards.

Even when u die u get the choice restart on the last checkpoint but still it gets u to the start of the mission.

Despite all that, there are some unorthodox ways to force the game to save by doing some specific actions. Actions like selling resources or reassining stuff members or getting to the choppet and then on the field again forced the game to save.

BUT REALLY NOW Konami and Hideo ?! After all those years of gaming developing is that the bedt saving method u can come up with?!

Why PSP UMDs Break

Being one of the best portables, Sony's PSP have some flaws as well. Not the actual console but the casing of its UMDs. You the UMDs themselves are really delicate construstions. They consist of 2 parts 1) a mini disc 2) and a plastic shell of two pieces that closes around the disc. That plastic shell theoritically protects the disc, among others, not to be harmed by dust, pointy ojects etc but what happens when you take it out of the case?!

The case has an identation that the UMD fits in and two plastic claw-like "teeth" that holds the game down from falling apart. And there is the catch, most cases tend to be grasp the game disc too tight or tighter that they should, so when you pull it out of the case the the plastic part that is below the disc gets seperated from the upper one resulting in opening in two. If the plastic shell opens then the game falls too far away from the PSP's laser beam and its almost impossible to be read.

Why PSP Is The Best Portable Console of All Times

It is well known the battle of the consoles that you hear going on here and there for ages and that will continue happenning but when it comes to crowning the king of the pocket systems then the title goes to Sony's PSP, not the PSP Go but all the other versions of the Sony's pocket monster!

Sony released PSP back then when the only antagonist that it had to compete with was Nintendo DS.
And i know that Nintendo warriors going start bitching about but come OOOOOOOON DUDE! Really?! And before you start judging me I 'll tell you that I know what you are gonna say. That it's not always the graphics that count and that Nintendo was always not oriented to violent games or that it targeted younger audience etc etc. I know all that, but when it comes to judging the best of the best you cant think of such parameters as mere excuses! And I tell you totally straight when PSP was released, was such an overpowered system that most of us could not know how to exploit it to its fullest!

So, why I think it's the King of The Portables

ADVANTAGES

1. A big 4.3 inches Widescreen TFT screen with 480*272 resolution.

2. IR Connectivity.

3. Wi-Fi Connectivity.

4. Music Player.

5. Video Player.

6. Stand by Mode (and we all know how important that especially if u run out of battery).

7. Hackability (you know you have hacked your psp and i know you have hacked your psp, it's so easy that even 5yo could do it! And it gives you the so much wanted backwards compatibility of every other console).

8. One of the BIGGEST game libraries.

9. So many games from other consoles have been re-released to PSP.

10. The most famous JRPGs of all times have made their way to the portable system giving the ability to younger audience to play games that were originally in previous generations.

11. Many exclusive releases of so many already famous games.

12. From the PSP-2000 and on players could plug their psp to their TV with just one cable and enjoy their portable experience like a boss!

13. Really cheap games

14. In 2011 Sony released the last model that was a budget model with no Wi-Fi or stereo sound but with the crispiest screen only for 99$.

15. Built like a tank!

In other words its an all around console that gives you portability, great graphics, and the veratility of a multimedia device. You will never get bored of it or think that it's useless. If you ask me all those are enough reasons to be considered one of the best consoles and the best handheld out there!

Disappointed With Resident Evil Revelations 2

The whole game seemed to me as something that had to be done really quick just because there were some contracts that needed to be followed.

Not that Resident Evil Revelations 1 was much better but this one is like playing a total different game that has nothing to do with the series. If it was made by not so popular developers, I m sure that it would be a disaster.

But lets examine one by one the biggest flaws of that controversial title.

1. Different Save Slots... NOT!!

I don't know if thats only on the PS4 version of the game, but if you start through lets say user one, you cant start it at the same time by a second user and keep both separate save files. Thats ridiculous! Even gameboy games had different slots to save different files. I am really really really frustrated by seeing such a colossal company doing amateur things like this. For Sephiroth's sake we are in 2017!

2. No Headshot Explosions.

Come on now you guys! What is a Resident Evil title without magnum headshot explosions?! You should know better. And apart from that , there is no damage in specific parts on enemy bodies.

3. Graphics

The graphics could surely be a lot more enhanced, yeah yeah I know its a series that started being designed on 3DS but I cant be playing a game on ps4 with worst graphics even when compared to ps3 games

4. Useless Co-Op

Co-Op mode is, surelly, most of the times so fun, especially if the game is well designed but in this case is kinda a disaster. The second character doesnt fight at all! AT ALL!!! Really now Capcom?! Its a fucking Resident Evil game! Why do I have to just be a mule and carry stuff for the primary character?!  And ok, with the Claire couple, Moira uses a crowbar for melee attacks, this is not much for sure but at least it's something. But when it comes to the Barry couple only Barry shoots and fights, Natalia just picks up bricks that break with the 3rd hit! And there are not strategically placed throughout the levels. How fucked up is that?! She climbs up a ladder and the brick falls, she cimbs down a ladder and the brick falls, she opens a door and the brick... guess what?!

5. Totally Useless Skill Tree

OH MY FOOOOCKINN GAD! Whats with the skill tree in that tragedy of  game! Ok, here is how things are. We have 2 couples of players. In each couple the one is the primary and the other is the auxiliary one. The primary one can obtain 3 rows of inventory slots can fire weapons and can attack melee attacks. The auxiliary characters, on the other hand, have only 2 rows of invenotry slots can fire arms, the one of them can't even attack with throwables and her melee attacks are practically useless and her climbing speed is ridiculously slow. With all that given, the skill tree has only six augmentation slots for the auxiliary characters (and even with those obtained there is much of a change) and all the others 18 slots are for the already overpowered primary characters.

So, NO RER2, JUST NO! You failed miserably in being a Resident Evil and disgraced your predecessors thats too bad, again, for a colossal name like that!

Nintendo DS vs DS Lite

I really dont know what to choose when it comes to picking one of these 2 Nintendo consoles. But I think i eventually lean more to DS Lite just dew to its a lot brighter screen. So listed below are the differences of those 2 portables

DS vs DS Lite

1. Size. The DS Lite is really smaller than the its predecessor but that its not always a desirable feature. Players with larger hands will find it difficult to use it.

2. DS Lite Brighter Screen. The Ds Lite has a considerably brighter screen and it gives the option to choose between 4 intesities! On the other hand the original DS has the option to just turn the light off.

3. DS Lite Stronger Battery. Its battery is slightly stronger. The DS Lite has a battery of 450mA and the DS has a battery of just 320mA

4. Power Button. The original Ds has the power button on the left side above the d-pad cursor, the DS Lite has the power button on the right side and it is a slide up button which it makes it a bit hard to operate.

5. DS stronger built. Though the Ds Lite is smaller and cuter if u want, it is built from a cheaper plastic in contrast to the original that it looks and feels stronger, and is built like a tank!

6. Mic position. Ds original has the mic on the lower left side of the screen and the DS Lite on the center of the hinge above the touch screen.

7. Power light. Ds original has the power light indicator on the lower right side of the touch screen and the DS Lite has it on the right side of the hinge

8. Touch Stylus. Ds has the stylus inserted on its back, and DS Lite has it on the right side next to the power button.

Why Square Enix, Why?!

Whats going on with that huge mega therion! It looks like they are on berserk mode with a main quest to ruin all those games that we grow up with! Im frustrated Square Enix, honstely I think you could do better than that! I dont know where to start. Final Fantasy series?! Thief series?! Tomb Raider series?! Dungeon Siege series?! Deus Ex?! (well Deus Ex to be honest is still quite playable!)

But what's up with you guys. And who said that gamers need innovations? We want Lara Croft as we met her back then in the middle fucking pixelish 90s, we want back that atmosphere of total exploration we want to sneak in every corner to find hidden treasures! Oh, and stop indicating us EVERYTHING, you take away from us the feeling of discovering your very own worlds!

Who said that lara is a fucking gun expert that kills 50 armed soldiers with just an axe! Guess what!!!NO ONE! She is a fucking TOMB RAIDER, and what a raider of tombs does??? Raiding Tombs!!! Duh!!!!  And NO Square Enix, we dont need auto healing, we need to heal her with medipacks! SImple fucking kneel-to-grab medipacks! Because thats classic! Simple as that!

And what happened to the old school hand drawn map of Thief? Why do i need to see a damn quest indicator constantly on my screen to show me where to go? Is it supposed to be set in a fantasy steampunk medieval age or not?! We need to find our own way we need to compare the old school handdraw map with the environment to see where to head next! And dont you think that the map on the last thief is too "high tech" for the game? Even its sounds! It is steampunk age, so we need sounds from metal clanging and steaming machines!!! Oh, and almost forgot, come guys.. admit it... what s with the rope arrows?! Copy&Paste anywhere right?!

Do i have to mention about the threnody that the Final Fantasy series are going through? Probably that's obvious! The elements for a successful FF game is QUITE SIMPLE!
1. Turn based battle system
2. Traditional leveling system
3. Clever/strategic battle gameplay
Simple as that! Can you follow that?! Probably not, to hard for you huh?! What the fuck, you never talk with actual gamers, never hear their opinions?! Honestly i dont know what's happening with you dudes!

And you couldnt keep away from Dungeon Siege either. So nice gameplay, so epic music so epic battles so adventurous explorations, and with DS 3 you just spoil all the fun. I began to think that you do it on purpose! And whats with that fucking button that shows us where to go?! I dont get it. What am I supposed to do if you give me everything that I must do myself? An autopilot button and there you have it! The perfect game for low-intelligent gamers! You dont have to simplify everything for us. You just have to make them intriguing and FUN at the same time,  I dont care how care to do it, thats your buisiness, and thats why we are paying you for!

Nintendo DS / DS Lite Are Region Free

Though i live in Europe, Greece, lately i bought an american version of Super Mario 64 DS and i was pleasantly surprised to discover that both of the DS and DS Lite systems are region free. I have European consoles and the american version seems to run just fine to my systems, I recorded also a video to show you. I believe that the compatibility goes backwards as well.

Why Gothic Is The Best RPG Trilogy

Many will say that if you haven't played Elders Scrolls Oblivion or Skyrim you dont know what an RPG means. If you want an rpg that you won't get bored of it, wont feel like you do over and over again the same thing then you definitely wont chose Bethesda's masterpieces. Although that many of the so-called gamers don't even know their existence Gothic games are by far the best of the genre and you will soon discover why.

Realistic Exploration

In Gothic when you want to track down a quest you track down a quest! and not by simply pressing "X" and chasing a dot on the minimap and you know why? because there is no minimap! You have to find it yourself by exploring the wolrd around you depended on the rumors you collect along the way! I dont want someone to take me by the hand and lead me to the quest's goal, if thats the case then i could use a walkthrough on youtube. The purpose is YOU to do all the necessary exploring! Play one quest like that and then you will see what feels better! It is supposed to be a fucking fantasy medieval game.

Real Time Healing/Looting

Remember all those western rpgs where you are during a battle your health drops dramatically and you just paused heal and unpause?! Really you noob?! Are you the only clever in your family or you have a twin?! Gothic gives you plenty ways and items to be healed but you have to do it like you would in a real fight, you have to run away from the enemy enough so you have the time to open the inventory select the healing item and heal yourself!

No Loading Times

Many wrpgs are designed that way so every time you enter a house it loads to show you the interior. In gothic you dont have such inconveniences. You enter a hut just by passing through the door simple as that, you dont have a loading screen to spoil the fun every now and then!

Improving Weapon Handling

As you progress through the game and become more proficient at several things you can see the changes on your hero. At the beggining when he is totally noob at anything he weilds even a small sword by clumsy grabbing it with his two hands. As you go further in the game, he becomes more familiar with it as he grabs it with one hand changes his body stance etc.

Learning Skills

I've been sick of rgps that you gain a level and some ability points and just apply them to your character attributes. In gothic you need to find important people, each one being specialized in something, and then get them to teach you what they know. There are teachers for swordsmanship, use of bow, use of acrobatics etc. and they teach you stuff by actually explaining things to you through dialogs How cool is that?!

Many Ways To Fight Enemies

The choice board there is really big, you can actually do anything even take down a pretty big fella that in a hand to hand combat
you d be wasted. You can climb on rocks unreachable to 4 legged monsters and kill them with bows , you can sneak behind them, you can put them to sleep with spells etc etc...

Many Way To Complete Quests

And those ways are not implied by anyone most of the times, you have to find them yourself. And the attractive part is that sometimes they feel quite natural like for example when at a quest you have to steal a document from a house the choices are many you have kill the owner in his sleep, you cant talk him out of keeping the document, you can put him to sleep with a spell and steall it or you can just grab it outside of the window!!

Everything Is Killable

Everything in Gothic's world especially in the 3rd game is killable, every NPC has a standard life bar that can be consumed, literally anything you can see moving can be killed from slaves to bosses and even pigs. Whatever you kill, stays dead, there are no respawns. Lets say that you kill an important NPC? well the game doesnt stop there just do what you must to continue in some other way your game.

Everyday Routines

One other amazing thing about gothic is that every NPC character seems to have a daily routine. They wake up in the morning, do their daily choirs talk to other guard passages and when the night comes they go back to sleep. This thing alone creates a realistic feeling that there is normal life everywhere around you!

People Watches Their Stuff

Everyone in the game mind their belongings. Lets say you enter a house and the owner is out sitting on a bench or by the campfire they immediately get up and warn not to do anything stupid.! And thats totally normal isn't it! Imagine you are hanging in the backyard with a friend and a stranger dude barges in your house .. what do you do?

Liberate Cities

The main plot around Gothic 3 is that the humans have lost the war to the orcs and there still are some rebels that they dont want to accept that and work underground to rebel against them! So, one of your many choices is that you can actually go to slaved cities and persuade the people to rebel and exterminate the whole population of this city and take it back!

Build You Reputation

If you go through a camp and you are just a stranger noone will trust you to give you lets say their armors and stuff. You have to work your way up do some choirs for them prove your worth and then you can be a trustworthy fella and join their cause!

Bring Back Good Old JRPGs!

#WARNING: Contains HATE!

I love the rpg genre and especially the japanese one. Despite that sometimes they can be a little too colorful or seemingly childish i think they stand out due to their almost every time exceptional gameplay and grandiose storylines. I was lucky enough to have played so many jrpgs in my life including some best hits such as Wild ARMs, the early FF series (under Squaresoft), Legend of Dragoon, Breath of Fires series, Hack, Lufia, Grandia etc.

But nowadays i think that developers are lost inside their own will to stand out with extraordinary and overcomplicated gameplays and battles systems, that they forget what a really attractive gameplay is in the first place!

For example when i first laid my eyes on Resonance of Fate i was in awe! Amazing steampunk environments, wonderful music, nicely designed characters ... i think thats enough for a first impression. Aaaand here comes the battle system! MY FUCKING DOG! Come on u guys! If you want a character to jump just make a damn command for the jump action, and not press-the-square-to-select-the-anchor-location-and-square-again-to-confirm-then-square-to-jump!!!! Thats just ridiculous! Yes i understand the need to make something innovative but if you make our lives hard just for a jump then its not worth it! I ve found myself wishing not to find any enemies cos the battle system is too needlessly tiresome!

And what's with the leveling thing?! Why do you have to mess with everything?! Sphere levels, profession levels and shit! A character battles, he gains EXP he levels up. SO SIMPLE!!! Everybody can make his life hard, we dont need u companies to do that for us! We need you to entertain us so be fucking entertaining!

Oh I almost forgot! *Grabs a Megaphone: A world map is a world map! We need a damn environment so we can explore it in real time by controling the main character! We dont need focking 2D shitty pics to move around like on a boardgame.. guess what if u need that WE'D PLAY A FOCKING BOARDGAME!!! Give a damn FF9 world map to show you what it means to explore outside of towns!

And if you think that im exaggerating i dare you! Play a battle of Grandia 2 and the a battle of FFXIII and if you enjoy the gameplay of the second one better then i ll donate all of my collection of games! (kidding it's not my fault if you are screwless)!

How 13 Classic Video Games Got Their Names

1. Pac - Man

It’s not easy to create a game based solely on the concept of eating. But Namco employee T?ru Iwatani did just that in 1980 by taking the idea of a pizza with a slice missing, and then having it eat a bunch of dots while being chased by ghosts in a maze. (Iwatani has also said that the shape is a rounded version of the square Japanese character for “mouth.") The name of the game, Pakkuman, was inspired by the Japanese onomatopoeia, “paku-paku," which describes the sound of eating, similar to the English word “chomp." As the game was brought to market, the title morphed into Puck Man.

But when Puck Man made his way to North America there was concern that the arcade cabinets would be vandalized by making the P into an F to spell something entirely different. A compromise was reached and the game became known as Pac-Man instead. Thanks to the American marketing machine, the name Pac-Man was eventually adopted for the game all over the world.

2. Metroid

The name of Nintendo's classic game is actually a combination of two words: metro, as in another word for subway, which is an allusion to the game's underground setting; and android, referring to the game's protagonist, Samus Aran, who appears to be a robot through most of the game. (Really old spoiler alert: Samus is a woman.)

3. Tetris

When Russian game designer Alexey Pajitnov named his famously addictive video game, he decided to combine two words: tetromino and tennis. A tetromino is a geometric shape comprising four squares. Tennis was just Pajitnov's favorite sport.

4. Grand Theft Auto

According to one of the original game's developers, Gary Penn, GTA was initially called Race 'n' Chase. And instead of only playing a car-stealing gangster, the game gave you the option of being a gangster-chasing police officer, too.

5. Wolfenstein 3-D

id Software's Wolfenstein 3-D essentially created a whole new genre – the first-person shooter – but its name is hardly original. The title roughly translates to “wolfstone” and was first used in 1981, when Muse Software released Castle Wolfenstein for the Apple IIe. The object of the game was to find secret Nazi plans and get out of the titular castle alive. But Castle Wolfensteinwasn't a simple run-and-gun action game like its namesake; while the player did occasionally have to kill enemy soldiers, the preferred method of play was to sneak around and evade capture. This makes it one of the first games in the “stealth” genre that has since spawned titles like Metal Gear and Splinter Cell.

Because 1992's Wolfenstein 3-D was heavily influenced by the original game, id Software hoped to use the name if it wouldn’t be too expensive to license. However, Muse Software had gone out of business in 1987, so the name was no longer protected by copyright and was free to use.

6. Doom

After the success of Wolfenstein 3-D, id Software programmer/designer John Carmack was already hard at work on a follow-up. The concept for the new game was said to be Aliens meets Evil Dead II, so the game's working title, It's Green and Pissed, seems pretty self-explanatory. But Carmack admits that a game with that name might have been a hard sell. Instead, inspiration struck while he was watching the Tom Cruise/Paul Newman billiards film, The Color of Money.

There's a scene where Cruise's character, Vincent, is holding his custom pool cue case, waiting for the next game on a table. The winner of the current game walks over to him and asks, “Whatchu’ got in there?” Vincent rubs the case and asks, “In here?” He smiles a cocky grin and replies, “Doom.” Vincent then goes on to destroy his opponent, which is what Carmack thought he and his id buddies would do to the industry once their new game hit the market. He was right.

7. Guerilla War

In 1987, SNK released the top-down view “run and gun” arcade game, Guerrilla War. The game featured two unnamed beret-wearing rebels firing machine guns, tossing grenades, and comandeering tanks as they invade a tropical island in a righteous quest to overthrow an evil king.

That's the American version of the game anyway.

If you lived in other parts of the world, you played Guevara – essentially the same game, except it stars heroes of the Cuban Revolution: Che Guevara as Player 1, and Fidel Castro as Player 2. The game was (loosely) based on real events from the Cuban uprising, and the “evil king” you fight in the game was Fulgencio Batista, the Cuban dictator.

Since America was still fighting the Cold War, all mentions of the historic events and figures were removed from the U.S. game, but the rather obvious 8-bit portraits of Che and Castro remain.

8. The Legend of Zelda

Zelda is the princess that the hero, Link, is trying to save. According to the game's creator, Shigeru Miyamoto, the name was inspired by Zelda Fitzgerald, the wife of novelist F. Scott Fitzgerald, simply because he liked the sound of it.

As for Link, he was originally going to be named Chris or Christo after Shigeru's godfather, but the name Link was ultimately chosen because he is meant to be a “link” between the player and the fantasy world of the game. Of course if you don't like the name Link you can always give him whatever name you want at the start of a new quest. If you decide to call him Zelda, you'll unlock an Easter Egg that lets you play a harder version of the game.

9. Final Fantasy

The year was 1987. Four years earlier, Hironobu Sakaguchi had left school mid-semester so that he could take a job as a game developer at a company called Square. Now, though, he was starting to wonder if this video game thing was really for him. He decided to give it one last shot with his latest title – an expansive role-playing game - but if it wasn't a hit, he was going back to college to finish his electrical engineering degree. As a sort of inside joke, he decided to call the game Final Fantasy, because he figured it would most likely be his last. It wasn’t. The game sold 400,000 copies for the Nintendo Entertainment System, has gone on to sell millions of copies across nearly every gaming platform in existence, spawned 13 sequels, and more spin-off titles than you can count.

10. Yars Revenge

One of the best-selling games ever for the Atari 2600, Yars' Revenge, is named after Atari's then-CEO, Ray Kassar. The insect-like alien species, the Yar, is Ray spelled backwards. The planet they come from, Razak, is a phonetic spelling of his last name backwards.

11. Q* Bert

When game developer Gottlieb’s Warren Davis and Jeff Lee started to create what would become Q*bert, they initially called their project Cubes after the M.C. Escher-inspired boxes that the main character hops around on. After they added the ability to shoot balls of slime from the character’s snorkel-like nose in order to defend himself, they changed the name to Snots and Boogers. But when it was decided that slime-ball-shooting made the game too complicated, the name didn’t really make sense anymore, so the marketing team started brainstorming.

One idea was to name the game @!#?@!, the curse-word grawlixes that appear whenever the player gets caught by a bad guy. They also thought about naming it after the main character who, until then, didn’t have a name. Someone came up with Hubert, which was later combined with Cubes to make Cubert. But as the art designer made the logo, he changed it to Q-bert, only to later have the dash become an asterisk, resulting in the game’s final name.

12. Halo

The road to the Xbox’s “killer app” was hard for game developer Bungie Studios. After starting life as a real-time strategy game called Solipsis, named after the planet where the game took place, it was eventually retooled as a first-person shooter. It was also christened with many different monikers through these development stages, including Star Maker, Star Shield, Hard Vacuum, The Crystal Palace, and, oddly enough, The Santa Machine and Monkey Nuts. (Monkey Nuts was replaced with Blam! after the company’s co-founder decided he couldn’t tell his mother he was working on a game with a title like that.)

Eventually the simple, spherical planet of Solipsis became a “Halo,” a man-made ring inspired by the Culture novels of sci-fi author Iain M. Banks. Although the company was concerned that the angelic name might be too soft for hardcore gamers as a title, Halo stuck and actually fit in well with the plot focusing on an invasion of alien religious zealots.

13. Donkey Kong

Although “kong” was a common Japanese nickname for “ape," no doubt inspired by the 1933 film, King Kong, how exactly the first half of the name Donkey Kong came to be is something of a mystery. One version of the story says the title was supposed to be Monkey Kong, but there was a miscommunication that led to a misspelling. Another story is that game designer Shigeru Miyamoto was looking up words in a Japanese-English dictionary and found the word “donkey” as a synonym for both “stupid” and “stubborn”. Whatever the case may be, it didn’t matter to Universal Pictures how the first half of the title came to be; they were more interested in the second half.

Universal sued Nintendo in 1982, because they felt Donkey Kong was too similar to King Kong – in name and in concept. Nintendo hired attorney John Kirby, who was able to show that there were significant differences between the two, but the nail in the Universal coffin came from a 1975 case in which Universal sued RKO Pictures, the producers of the 1933 film, in order to film a remake. Universal claimed they were filming an adaptation of the original film’s novelization, which had fallen into the public domain. In that case, it was determined that the 1933 film’s characters were now in the public domain, though not the film itself. Shortly after, Universal bought some of the rights to the characters, but not all. So when they sued Nintendo, they did so knowing that the characters were partially in the public domain, because they had used that exact argument a few years earlier.

Nintendo won the suit and Universal wound up paying $1.8 million for legal fees and damages. To show their appreciation, Nintendo bought John Kirby a sailboat christened Donkey Kong, and it’s rumored that the bubbly character Kirby from the 1992 game Kirby’s Dream Land is named after him.

Adventure Games Strategies

Many are the times that playing an adventure game you find yourself fully loaded with a bunch of phenomenically useless stuff and locked doors or chests with peculiar locks and you literally feel helpless and you don't know what to do. I ve seen it happen a lot of times, so i guess this things just happens no matter what gamer are you good or bad thorough or hollow.

So with adventure and point n' click games being one of my must genres over the years I have concluded in some ways of playing that quite possibly get you unstuck in times of need (don't resort to walkthroughs with the first hassle, try the following and I m sure that the feeling you get is much better than the one the given answer provides). The things im going to propose and suggest are generic rules and don't apply in all of the games or situations but it's sure that will help.

ADVICE:

1. Talk to everyone about anything (if that means about dialogue options or the items that you have in the inventory, it may be boring but worths a shot)

2. Combine every item in the inventory (in the most games of the genre you can combine items that you have collected so try every combination possible)

3. Examine every item that you have collected (a closer look on the accumulated items might give you details, hidden messages or even open/unravel/unpack items to find other items inside)

4. Try every possible (talk/pick up/combine etc) action on every NPC or interactible item on the environment.

5. If the game supports the hotspot finder then use it. You might always miss an important spot.

6. Combine every item of your inventory with every environmental item or NPC.

7. After making some progress even the slightest one, try talking again to every NPC. The progress might have unlocked a new possible dialogue topic.

8. Try everything even if it doens't make sense. Many games don't depend necessarily on logic (see Escape from Monky Island 4 - Flea puzzle)

9. Every puzzle has its solution. So before fuming try reading every relating file about the puzzle or making every possible combination. I know sometimes it gets so hard that you feel like quiting but thats not the point!

10. Last but not least: SAVE OFTEN & IN DIFFERENT SAVE SLOTS! Some adventure games due to bad development you get stuck if you dont do some things in the a specific order (like Sherlock Holmes - The Awakened). And when i say stuck i mean that the current save game is totally worthless. So it's good to keep several save games as a back up in such a case.

How Did Zelda Got Her Name?

Miyamoto (the creator of The Legend of Zelda saga) obviously admired Zelda Fitzgerald, a famous novelist back in beggining of 1900. He also found her to be "a famous and beautiful woman from all accounts". And then he named the character after her! Fun fact: Robbin Williams, who is a mega fan of The Legend of Zelda series, named his daughter Zelda as well!

Paf Le Chien (Space Dog)

Hello again guys. Missed me? Well i certainly missed posting on kupo (damn army) but im doin my best. Well last night when i was on my watch it was soooo fucking boring so i began running down the memory lane. No no dont go too far back nor to any retro console games, just 3-4  years back.

Well as a student i ve spent many many many hours on facebook playing varius apps (when the apps were not so much of a plague especially on android devices) and you could find some real gems and one of them was paf le chien. That game was really silly yet quite addictive. There was this guy with his dog that was kicking him in the ass and the dog was taking a pretty nasty flight up the sky and the goal was to reach the dog as far as possible. Randomly scattered on the stage were some gooses that if the dog hit on them they were bouncing him again on the sky to some extra meters. As obstacles there were also scattered brick walls all over the stage that were cutting you off. And thats all about it. And when i was googling it last night i found that it was renamed to Space Dog. A pity if u ask me because the previous name had much more character.

A quite nice choice if you are fed up with column clones (yes folks the original game was columns on game gear not the cheesy saga game series) or run game clones.

Pyranha Bytes Oh How Much I Hate You!!

Pyranha Bytes is the well known to everyone one of us (at the least to the rpg fans) german developer that has developed the Gothic and Risen series. Dont get fooled by the article's title. I love all those games cos the were quite innovative while other games kept on reproducing some of the classic (not wanted) stuff regarding the gameplay. Although all those games have some really really REAAAALLY annoying bugs and malfunctions that make the gaming quite frustrating.

When i firstly played Gothic (the first of the series) i wasnt expecting much of it because it was from an unknown company so i was a bit sceptical. When i gave it time i realised that i had to do with a real gem despite the bugs that were literally everywhere (and i think i dont have to mention the really really REEEEALLLY long loading times). Many of those annoying bugs were of the kind that you could overlook them simply because it was the first time you were encountering them just with the thought : "nah, its the first try of pyranha bytes, it will get better". But time showed evenutally that not only it got worse but the bugs kept being more and more! Just google it Risen and the autofill will say bugs! Thats ridiculous! But the bugs that got me really angry and were the reason that birth was given to this article were the ones about speed. You see it seems so hard for those games to load many information at the same time (maybe its the open free roaming world the one to blame). When u encounter many enemies and the clicks you have to make must be precise and crucial then it takes so long for the game to process the commands you give it that you end up in front of the enemy with ur weapon seathed, the camera almost frozen and the getting hit like there is no tomorrow. And i know that thats a bug im talking about cos it happens in all of PB games even if its console or pc version.

It has been one of so few times that i was so frustrated with the gameplay that i almost quit playing. And i believe there are many others like me who think likewise. Not that its important but i felt like sharing my thoughts on that matter because its a pity games like these to be ruined by factors like bugs.

King Of Tekken Shows His Face

You can't deny that characters with masks have a mysterious aura floating around them making them more charming more intriguing and more difficult to "read". King of the Tekken series makes no exception on that rule having built a myth around his name through all that titles and years.

Many things have been heard from several gamers (infidels!!) all those years about king that he is a beast or non-human, or cyborg or whatever! But come on guys search on google a bit, it is just a click away! Nothing supernatural is going on with King except his exceptional fighting abilities and grabs! King (or should i say Kings, because they are more than one) is human like the most of Tekken characters and Namco wanted him back in 1995 to show his face during one of the game's cutscenes. Maybe Namco hadn't decided what to do with king's mysterious personality and for that reason they revealed his face. But again we cant see it very clearly, we just have living proof at least that he is human!

As a mexican wrestler he is bound by the mexican wrestiling rules to always wear his mask. An unmasked mexican wrestler is dishonored (thats why he gets so mad with marduk later on in the series. Because he insulted his mentor by wearing Armor King's mask). And don's ask why he always roars! Why Brock from Pokemon has always his eyes closed? Or how the fuck Lulu in FFX manages to hit enemies with a moogle? We dont ask THAT stupid question. Cos they are anime style for fuck's sake! They are meant to be designed with some things that doesnt make so much sense but they still rock, and that way they are superior to the western animations!

Well having said all that I give the one and only shot of King's face! Enjoy!

How Did Crash Bandicoot Got His Name?

Rivalry and gaming. A pretty common issue between designing companies who always want to creat new catchy characters (back then at least cos now the characters are full of muscles, badass looking and fucking yeah malice).

Crash for instance created to rival Sonic the Hedgehog, Crash Bandicoot was originally known as “Willie the Wombat.” Once it was clear that the character would be spending 99% of his time smashing boxes, he became “Crash.” As for “Bandicoot,” well — this is a wombat and this is a bandicoot, so we’re pretty sure one of his parents lied.

How Did Luigi Got His Name?

Mario and Luigi? Hmmm... the names seem to be quite italian dont u think? And its true! Read below to know about the origin of Mario's bro name!

When developing Mario Bros. in 1983, Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto was in need of a second character to accompany Mario in two-player mode. A pizza joint near Nintendo of America’s headquarters in Redmond, Washington was called “Mario & Luigi’s,” so that’s how our beloved Luigi came to be. Thanks, pizza.

How Did Kirby Got His Name?

Although Masahiro Sakurai, the creator of Kirby, reportedly “can’t remember” how the character got his name, the world has accepted two possible explanations:

1. The vacuum cleaner manufacturer “Kirby Corporation.” This makes a lot of sense - that little fellow could inhale like it was nobody’s business.

2. A man named John Kirby represented Nintendo throughout a Donkey Kong copyright infringement lawsuit filed by Universal Studios.
